Packing

The packing started. We are boarding the train tonight. Today is Dussera. On this day Ravana effigy is burnt. Our train was at 8:00 pm from Hatia, and the station was 15 min from MECON quarter. Still we decided to leave MECON at 6 pm. And thank god we took that desicion. Due to Ravana badh all the autos were booked, and the roads blocked by stream of people. It took us 1 hr to cover a distance of 15 mins. Just imagine.

At Ranchi.

We booked another car and went to visit falls around Ranchi. The first one was Hundru Falls.Hundru falls is about 40 km. aways from Ranchi town. The Swarnarekha river falls from a height of 320 feet making a wonderful scene known as Hundru falls. During rainy season it takes a formidable form. To view the falls one has to alight the steps. And how many ? Well one has to go down 736 steps and one small bridge.
After Hundru we visited Jonha falls. Jonha is 36 km from Hundru. It got a newly built road. There is also a hospice Tourists rest house which accommodates Lord Gautam Budha’s temple. This falls is named after Gautam as Gautamdhara. Here one can alight the steps and can go so close to the fall that it could be touched. This one looked much better than Hundru, as the falls is much broader. River Ganaga Nala flows to form the falls.

Way back to Ranchi

We started our journey from Netarhat at 10: 30 am. On the way we stopped at Birsha. This place is 25 km from Netarhat. Birsha is a place on Koel River river bank. The place could be viewed from our hotel at Netarhat.

At Netarhat.

156 Kms from Ranchi is Netarhat, the queen of Chotanagpur. The name Netarhat has a history behind it. During the British periods, the British soldiers were looking for a cool place. While doing the survey they came upon a area in the hills, covered with dense forest and small streams. Seeing the sight they were very happy, and described the place as "Near the heart". The phrase "Near the heart" gradually got transformed and took the form Netarhat. It is situated at a height of 3,7000 ft above sea level and is a hill station of Jharkhand. Netarhat is a beautiful resort during summer. Dense forests, serpentine roads, cool bracing breeze, moonlit nights truley makes it near the heart. This place is an out of this world experience.

We reached Nerathat around 4 pm. The journey was quite long more than 5 hours. This is mainly due to bad roads. We boarded at Prabhat Hotel, a Jharkhand Tourism hotel. We had our lunch, and then took the car to Mangolia Point. This is a point from where one can see the sun set.
The most stunning thing of Netarhat is the silence. The place is amazingly silent after sunset.

2nd day at Netarhat.

The sunrise point was from the hotel where we had lodged. From the balcony we could see the Koel River flowing downhill, and the range of hills. Amazing view. After breakfast we visited Netarhat Dam, and Netarhat lake. Both were 2 km from our hotel, so we decided walking through the jungles. The lake serves as water reservoir for the place.
Far off from Netarhat, one can visit many falls. Among them are Lodh Falls (70 kms from Netarhat) and Sadni Falls : (35 kms from Netarhat). we had a problem with disel. The nearest petrol pump from Netarhat is 55km away at Ghagri, on Ranchi - Netarhat road. And since there was a shortage of dilsel in our car, so we decided to visit Sadni falls. To visit the falls one has to cover jungle, then bauxite mines (now owned by HINDALCO), then again the jungles. Let me mention that the jungles in Netarhat is so dense that sunlight can hardly penetrate. Also the road condition is poor,( on the way we say people re-building the roads, they should be over in another year). After travelling 30 kms we came across a team of workers. And since the road conditions were detoriating drastically as we were approaching the spot, so we decided to stop tha car and ask the supervisor. When we put forward our query, he recommended us not to go. As the place is disturbed by the extremest. In last 5 years not a single tourist went there. So, alas we had to turn back. It was very sad that we couldn't see the falls, being so near to it.
In evening we went to see Upper Ghagri Falls.

Ranchi

At Ranchi.
The train journey was good enough. It was quite cold. Actually, Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, is set on Chota Nagpur Plateau, quite a pleasant place. The Gypsy was waiting at the station. We boarded the car and was headed to MECON staff quarters. My pisha (uncle) works at MECON.We are not supposed to meet them, as they went to Mumbai. So the whole quarter belonged to us. A huge quater was waiting for us. Spacious rooms with huge balcony. The best thing at Ranchi is the sound polluton was less, and my ears were getting good rest. After lunch we went to one of the posh locality of Ranchi, and booked a car for our onward journey to Netarhat.

Software

It have been a long time since I have posted anything out here. My new software is nearly ready. It should be ready for testing earlier next month. The software is all about production management in 2d animation field. The software reduces the job of the production manager, and automated lot of process. But a note of warning, the software is highly dependent on the primary inputs by the user. One has to be accruate while feeding the information at the initial stage, or else the results will be haywire.

So, keep your fingers crossed, till the release of the software.

Exam Countdown

At last my purpose of comming to my home town is getting nearer. After all the paper leak and exam postponment drama, finally the exam is going to start on 21st July. Its scheduled to end on 2nd August. Unfortunately the examination center has been changed. From exterem South Kolkata it has been shifted to extereme north of the city. So, quite along distance for me to travel. On top of that if it rains then now a days the city is gifted with knee deep water. This is what we get living in A1 city. Anyways the exam should get over, and so my purpose of visiting.

News

As it says it only becomes a news when, its different. Today, I came to know, Premjit died of a car accident on 25 May 2004. Really a shocking news for me. He introduced me to the world of editing. He was my faculty for some time, and then became my colleauge, and later a friend. He went off to Delhi, and me to Hyderabad, we were in touch. I wouldn't say regularly, but often. Sometimes for business puropse, or sometimes just like that.

A fat chubby fellow, I used to call him "mota" (in bengali which means fat). Always careing, and loved to eat.

May his soul rest in peace.

Can we afford it?

The Indian general elections results came out. A total landslide for the BJP led NDA. Congress and its alliance got the majority. Everything went wrong for BJP. Psephologist are speaking of various things.
Everyone is having their view. Though I am not an avid supporter of any party in general. Being an young Indian here's my view. Congress again led back to victory. Living in this 21st century we still believe in dynasty politics. The "Gandhi" factor played a major role. With support of which parties? Parties like RJD,JMM and the Left Front. Ruling in Bengal for 27 odd years, what did the Left Front do here? Got the
"Glorious Past" of Bengal to the "Gloomious Present". Imagine Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav being the Finance Minister of the country, imagine JMM president Sibu Soren holding the portfolio of foreign affairs, and imagine Pappu Yadav holding the Defense ministry. The government expenditure for this general election was Rs.1300 crores. Imagine a mid term elections, in this poor country. Can we afford it?

School

Today I visited my school. After 10 years, I went there. A very big thing for me. Those who know me well, will say this. There I met all the old teachers. For a long time they are associated for such a long time. Most of the teachers were still there. And, I was quite surprised that they remembered me well. Though I was never very good at studies.Though it was quite tough for me to identify all of them. It took me quite some time to recognise them. I also got an invitation to the comming Pochiseh Boishak (Rabindranath Tagore's Birthday).
It was a good meeting.

Its very hot.

I am half dead here. I used to hear people get used to luxory very soon. Never believed it. But now I do. Last year when I was at Hyderabad. It was really very hot. But being at office, the air-conditioner was on, and it was a big relief. This year I am at Kolkata. In my home. And the heat. Though its less than Hyderabad, but the humidity is too much. Very hot. Truely how people survive here. On top of that, the civic authorities are cutting down the trees. Kolkata was once a green city. Now you have to look out for trees. They have cut down 5000 trees to construct 5 flyovers. God.And that too without a single protest. Not imaginable at least at Kolkata. Previously, even if a small plant was fell by the civic authorities, people used to protest. And now...... Things changes preety fast.

Suvo Naboborsho.

Today is the first day of Bengali New year. Its known as Poila Boishak. Today the Bengali calender changed to 1411. I wish all you you a very happy new year.
Interview

After comming back from Hyderabad, I was at home most of the days. And have spend my time studying movies. For past few days a company in West Kolkata kept on calling me, asking to come for an interview. So, after a few calls, I decided to visit them. The journey took 1 and a half hour from my residence. Anyway, after reaching there, I submitted my Resume, to the concerned person, and was asked to wait. After waiting for some time, their "technical head" called me and gave me a qestion paper. This move was very strange. I asked him, "I would like to know what post you are offering ?" . Preety confused, I called his boss. I asked the same question to this person also. Hopefully he had the answer. They were looking for Animators. I informed him, that my resume clearly says, I am a Production Manager, and not an animator. And added, that I hope he understood what a production manager means. On which he nodded. Upon further discussion, I realized that he had no basic knowledge of animation production. At the end I gave him a thorough lecture on animation, and left the place.

Shocking news

From the trip we reached home at 9:30 pm. We were daam tired, after the fun we had. So, had our dinner and retired early to bed. At around 1:20 am in the morning, the phone rang. We got the news of Anno dida's death. Barely 5 hrs back she was with us on the boat, enjoying with us. It was a huge shock to our family. We never thought of such a news after the party. Me and dad went to the nursing home at that hour, and passed on the news to all the members of the family.
Her cremation was done at Kaoratola Burning ghat at 11:00 am in the morning. I came back at 1:00 pm after everything was over.

River Cruise

Today was a wonderful day. A six hour trip down the river Hoogly. The whole family got together at Babughat (a river jetty at Kolkata) at 2 pm. We started the trip down the river on a steamer named "Adonis". For 3 hrs we traveled upstream. Passing Howrah Bridge, Bally Bridge was really great. I have clicked some snaps. Hope they come out well. After 3 hrs we crossed Titagarh Paper Mills and reached near Gandhi Ghat near Barrackpore, and the boat made took a U-turn for its return journey. It took 15 mins more for the down stream journey.
A wonderful cruise that ended at 8:15 pm at the night.

How can people cheat so much ?

Today, in search of a MCA guide, I went to a computer institute at Bon-Hoogly, in outskirts of Kolkata. First the guy made me wait for 1.5 hrs even tough he knew that he had an appointment with me. Then after he met me, I realised what a big mistake I did comming here. I was shooting him my questions, and he fell in a ackward position, so couldn't answer much. When, I asked him about the qualification and experience of the guide, he said M.Tech without experience. I told him that's against the university rules, he promptly said, no. I argued and said I have the university guide rule (this is send by the university to every student). To defend himself he replied " Thats a mistake in your rule book". It was too much for me to accept. Anyways, I managed not to shout on him, and said bye and left the place. I don't know why the administrative system dosen't crunch down these kind of centers.

What a day!!

23 March, what a day. Thinking why. Aaah... today is the day I was born, world weather day, and 4 planets were to be seen with naked eye. The last one was quoted in most of the english dalies. To help novice sky watchers like us, the dalies also stated that, the planets will be on the same direction with the moon. Good for people like me. The thrilling moment was to come after 6:45 pm. With major hope I was on the terrace sharp at 6:45 to have a look at this creativity. But staying on the terrace for more than 2.5 hrs, I was utterly depressed. No sign of the planets. And the worse, the moon also vanished at around 7:00 pm. Remember no clouds. What a waste. I think the dalies should be more constructive on the news. What do you say ?

Chalta Hai Yaar

Today after visiting Vishakha, I had a tough time returning home. The 15 mins journey from her home to mine took more than 1.5 hrs. Kolkata boasts of her subway train system. The return journey was smooth enough. But after landing at Tollygunge, god...what a mess. I was remembering the book "Things that make me go hmm..." by Anand Adkoli. He starts off like this .."Chalta hai yaar! In my opinion, we have learnt to accept mediocrity over the years..". The road in Tollygunge was in a mess... full of mud, and as usual the foothpaths were dug up ( i don't know why they make the fothpath and dig them up), then stand for the auto line for 45 mins. Aha..I was observing all the people around me. Everyone were busy chatting, among themselves (offcourse there were small groups), and none was quite irritated, disgusted with the situation. Every one accepted it in a very casual manner. Without protest. This is a city, where people call for bandh (strike), for increasing the bus fare by 50 paise, but none seem to protest for such a situation. Chalta hai yaar!
First outing
Today i went out for the first time, after landing at Kolkata. Went to enquire about the prices of a personal computer. By seeing the city after one whole year, I felt nothing have changed, except the pollution level. It has increased a lot. Tomorrow, will visit Vishakha.
